Smithfield is unique in many ways, but none more so than the variety of housing periods that make up its Historic District. From the colonial era to the first half of the 20th century, Smithfield residents kept pace with housing trends.

Using the latest in construction methods and tastes, they built, occupied and lovingly maintained extraordinary examples of each housing period. Lecture presented by John Edwards, publisher emeritus of The Smithfield Times. Isle of Wight County Museum, 103 Main Street, Smithfield.
